Indoor Soccer Rules & Regulations    

INDOOR SOCCER RULES  

SUMMARY ·        5 players on the court maximum - 3 men (maximum) and 2 women (no maximum number of women)·        3 players, including 1 woman required to start a game·        Played in gym with no goalie and 4’ x 6’ goals ·        Two 22-minute running halves with 3 minute half time      ·        NO slide tackling!!!·        NO off-sides rule  

Number of Players

A. A team on the court shall consist of no more than five players (a least two must be female). A maximum of three men can play at once.  B. Teams must have a minimum of three players to start a game. Any team failing to field at least three players within five minutes of start time will be forced to forfeit and will be credited with a loss. Game will be shortened appropriately.  Only current Jersey Club Sports members are allowed to sub.  The referee must be notified of any subs before the start of the game or your team will forfeit one game.   The sub MUST sign a waiver before the start of the game. NO subs will be allowed during playoffs! C. Substitutions during games are made “on the fly” and may occur on an unlimited basis provided the player leaving the floor arrives at the bench before the replacement enters the field of play. 

Duration of Games

A. Two 22 minute halves, running clock. If a game ends in a tie, it stands with the exception of the play-offs. Half time will not be more than 3 minutes & not less than 1 minute. Clock will start at designated time and will not stop for any reason, including late arrivals & injuries. Games must remain on time. Regular season games can end in a tie.  

Start of Play

The two team captains do rock/paper/scissors. The winning captain will have the option of choosing sides or taking the kick-off. A game is started by a kick-off from the center mark.  The kick does not have to go forward. The opposition must be 3 yards from the ball when the kick-off begins.  A goal cannot be scored on the kick-off.  

Goal Area

No goalies are allowed.Teams are allowed to defend the goal, but can not use their hands.If a defender uses his/her hands in front of their goal a penalty kick on an open goal from the top of the key (marked on gym floor).The goal box will be approximately 2 yards from the goal line and 1 yard wider than the goal posts and will be marked with tape at the corners.Players are not allowed to be in the goal box at any time.  This will result in a 2-minute penalty. 

Methods of Scoring

A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line. After a goal is scored the ball returns to the center with the team scored upon taking the kick.A goal cannot be scored from behind half court.The referee will signal when a goal has been scored by blowing the whistle. 

Ball in and Out of Play

A. The ball is out of play and restarted with an Indirect Kick when the ball has traveled into an unplayable area, or hits the ceiling.  B. The ball is in play at all other times from the start of the game to the finish, including: If it rebounds off the referee when he/she is on the field of play or in the event of a supposed infringement of the rules.  

Fouls and Misconduct

A. A player who intentionally kicks or attempts to kick, trips, jumps, charges, strikes or attempts to strike, holds or pushes an opponent or handles the ball has committed a foul. All fouls shall be penalized by awarding a Direct Free Kick.  B. Should a player on the defending side intentionally commit one of the listed offenses within his/her own penalty area, it will result in a penalty kick. C. The following offenses are penalized with a two minute penalty.  A Direct Free Kick is also awarded at the point of infraction for playing in a manner considered dangerous.  Boarding an opponent, Slide Tackling, or sliding to play the ball, Intentional hand balls, Kicking a ball wildly out of play, Foul or abusive language, Encroachment (a player must stand three yards from all free kicks).  

Yellow and Red Card Penalties Yellow card: A player who commits the following offenses (i.e. slide tackling, dangerous uncontrolled play, and verbal abuse), short of warranting an ejection will result in a yellow card. Yellow card penalties are 2-minutes in nature.  If during the 2-minute penalty, the opposition is awarded a goal, the penalized team may return to full strength, otherwise the penalized player may not return until the 2-minute penalty has expired. Red card: Major/serious offenses (2nd yellow, verbal or physical threats, fighting, seriously dangerous or violent play) will result in a Red card. Players receiving a red card are automatically ejected from the game. Any ejection will result in a one-game suspension. Second ejection results in league suspension.  Flagrant or intentional offenses, which occur during the final two minutes of regulation or overtime, will result in automatic ejection from the game, and an additional one-game suspension. 

NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED DURING GAMES! 

NO RUNNING SHOES.  We recommend indoor soccer shoes. Sneakers must have a flat bottom. *SHIN GUARDS ARE MANDATORY* NO sneakers with black soles are allowed! Please wear your JCS shirt every week.   NO guests will be allowed during the games.    

Sportsmanship:

THE NUMBER ONE RULE IS TO HAVE FUN!!!!Please NO arguing with the refs!  Any unacceptable behavior may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.  Fighting will be an automatic ejection from any game and in most cases ejection from the league for the remainder of the season.

Game Cancellation:

Games may be canceled due to existing weather conditions, dangerous or unplayable field conditions, facility constraints, etc.   We will make every effort to play all scheduled games, thus we will not cancel games until absolutely necessary.  If the game is cancelled, we will change the voicemail immediately. It is then the captain’s responsibility to inform all teammates of the cancelation. Any games that are cancelled will be made up towards the end of the season if time allows.
